Borage is a wildflower oftentimes known as the starflower and is found naturally in almost all parts of the world. It is a well-known herb that has been used for over 1,500 years. The plant is also harvested for the valuable oil that is found in the seeds (borage oil). This seed oil is the richest known source (24%) of an essential fatty acid called gamma-linoleic acid. When applied topically, it has been shown to have positive effects of clearing up many skin disorders, including “cradle cap” on infants. Borage oil provides great penetration into the skin and significant moisture retention combining with its high nourishing properties. It is soothing and softens the skin in addition to reducing redness for people with sensitive skin. The tannis contained in the oil can have a slight tightening effect on the skin as well.
